Illinois’ largest electricity utility, ComEd, turned to Grisko when legislation was needed to restore critical state funding for the completion of the Illinois Smart Grid Modernization program. The Smart Grid is a 21st century power infrastructure being built by ComEd that will provide more efficient management and usage of electricity, in addition to positioning Illinois to compete in today’s digital economy.
In addition to developing a campaign strategy rooted in simple and compelling key messages, Grisko created the “Recharge Illinois” campaign identity and logo, along with a website where supporters of the Smart Grid could contact their legislators. Grisko’s strategic approach enlisted the voices of influential labor, faith-based, minority business and municipal leaders throughout Illinois in order to reach the Governor and legislators with positive Smart Grid messages in the media and through direct communications over the 90-day campaign.
The passage of Senate Bill 9 in both chambers of the Illinois General Assembly marked a legislative victory and turning point in the future of the Illinois Smart Grid program. With funding restored, ComEd is now able to proceed with the modernization of Illinois’ electricity infrastructure, creating thousands of jobs and improving energy efficiency across the state.
