Challenge

The Michigan Science Center (Mi-Sci) – formerly the Detroit Science Center – is a hands-on museum that inspires children and their families to discover, explore and appreciate science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). In December 2012, Mi-Sci was ready to open its doors, after being closed for more than a year, and asked our team to assist in spreading the news locally and regionally.

Response

We created a comprehensive awareness campaign including a press conference announcing the reopening plans, media advisories, press releases and a press kit. In addition, our team coordinated a media reveal for the “Bodies Human: Anatomy in Motion” exhibit and had ongoing contact with target publications and journalists throughout December 2012 and January 2013.

Results

Coverage of the reopening was included in more than 20 local online and print publications, broadcast outlets as well as some high-profile local parenting blogs. In the first six months of being open, Mi-Sci had more than 100,000 children and parents visit and enjoy its theatres, exhibits and programs.
